Module 3: CBCT in de dental practice

Wednesday, 21 Jan 2026

09:00 – 17:00

COURSE IN ENGLISH (with FR and NL support)

Imaging is one of the most important diagnostic tools in dental practice.  To date, mainly two-dimensional examinations have been used to visualize dentomaxillofacial structures. However, these often have certain disadvantages compared to three-dimensional imaging. In recent years, the field of cone beam CT has been expanding very rapidly and more and more clinical indications are being added in almost every field of dentistry. The aim of this continuing education course is to become more familiar with this new technology and to study its use in dentistry in detail. The participants will receive demonstrations in addition to a part of theory and will acquire, through practical exercises, the competences in the use, indication and interpretation of cone beam CT.

In order to make the right decisions regarding three-dimensional imaging using CBCT, certain topics need to be addressed.

  • How should one interpret 3D images? (with anatomy and diagnosis exercises)
  • When should one consider such 3D examinations?
  • How to responsibly manage CBCT and its associated radiation dose? (with radioprotection and indication exercises)
  • How to take good CBCT images?
  • Which conditions should a 3D device meet?
  •  Which devices are available?
  •  Which exposure parameters should one use, taking into account good practice and use of radiation protection? (demonstrations, exercises on phantoms)

This intensive course is designed for clinicians who would like to acquire a deeper knowledge of CBCT imaging in practice. The participants will learn to take 3D images in a clinical setting according to the rules of justification and quality control (together with a dentomaxillofacial radiologist). The trainees will be able to acquire an in-depth knowledge of image manipulation (3D visualization and image formats) and of more specialized diagnostics (large field, head and neck) to complete their training in dentomaxillofacial diagnostics.
